The Miracle of the Potter's Kiln: During the reign of King Harishchandra, there lived a poor potter. Once, after preparing a large batch of clay pots, he placed them in his kiln (aawa) to bake. However, even after burning fuel for several days, the pots remained raw. The worried potter approached the royal priests, who advised that sacrificing a young boy in the kiln would bake the pots instantly. In the same city, a poor Brahmin widow lived with her only son. The potter deceitfully kidnapped the boy. The mother, an ardent devotee of Lord Ganesha, was observing the Sankashti Chaturthi fast that day. Before her son went missing, she had tied a sacred Ganesha protection thread around his wrist and spent the night praying for his safety. When the boy was thrown into the burning kiln, Lord Ganesha's grace kept the fire cool. The next morning, the potter opened the kiln and was astounded to find all the clay pots perfectly baked and the boy playing happily inside, untouched by the flames. The potter confessed his crime, and the King released the boy. This miracle established the tradition of worshiping Lord Ganesha during moonrise on Sankashti Chaturthi to remove all obstacles.
